From: Christine Subject: [workmom] Music Classes - Compiled Responses Date: Wed, 4 Aug 2004 08:50:58 -0700 (PDT) Thanks so much to everyone who responded to my query about music classes for my almost 2-year old son. Here are the responses: We did Music Together (when my son was 2) and really liked it. They have classes in Maplewood, So. Orange, maybe Short Hills, and Summit. Now we take Kindermusik in Maplewood They have programs for young kids too, I just don't know a lot about them. However, I love the program we're now in. It begins to teach musical concepts in a fun way -- the kids don't even know they are learning. I would highly recommend it. My son (who doens't like anything that feels like a lesson) loved the classes and can now read music and play the notes on the glockenspeil (and the piano). ---- Music Together with Kelly is great - Kiran was our teacher and we love her. --- Somebody was looking for a music class for their 2 year old son. We just received a flyer in the mail for: Music, Story and Song (A Musical Play Group) with Bill Deltz. The sessions are Monday 3:30-4:15 Tuesday 3:45-4:30 Thursday 4:30-5:15 Call Bill Deltz for registering 973-731-8478 My daughters have not taken any classes but I've heard great things from other mothers in the working group about his classes. --- Everyone seemed to love Bill when my kids were young. However, for some unknown reason, my then 2 year old hated him and sat with his arms crossed during Bills class. --- We also like Music together - we go in Summit - and love Joan's classes... --- I have also been participating in the Music Together program with my daughter since she was 7 months old (she is now 2.5yrs) and we love it. She adores the music and sings and dances constantly at home, even though she is reserved in class. What I love about the program is that it is NOT performance based, so children are not required or expected to do everything in class (sing, dance, play instruments, etc). It is a very relaxed environment for the kids where they can jump right in or just sit back and absorb everything. We attend Music together with Kelly Heinze that has locations in South Orange and Maplewood. The website is musictogetherwithkelly.com and Dina and Kevin are WONDERFUL teachers. --- I've been taking my children (starting around 2-years) to Music Together in Watchung for 2 years -- even though I live in Short Hills. The teacher there, Patricia Price, is just wonderful, kind and talented -- so it was well worth the drive. Her home # is 908/755-7512. --- my daughters love music together and maryann hall's music for children. check out the musictogetherwithkelly.com and the website for the connections in Summit. --- I would highly recommend Music Together with Kelly Heinze - they have locations in Maplewood, South Orange (a bit nicer & easier to park) and they are starting a class in Short Hills. Web site: http://www.musictogetherwithkelly.com/ Registration started 8/1, and classes are starting to get filled up. I'm sure all the teachers are good, but I can say we've had very positive experiences with Kevin & Dina. My kids have gone for several years, and they both love music, which I attribute heavily to the program. It is fun & participative, a great program. --- We like Music Together a lot (we use the Short Hills location). There is also kindermusik which has a location at Front and Center in Millburn, as well as Stories in Motion (or Bodies in Motion?) in Maplewood. --- highly recommend music together. I was a music major for a short while in college and think it is an impressive program. I have also heard that Bill Deltz runs a good class. He came to my daughter's second birthday party and I thought he did a great job. ---- Music together in South Orange. I'm sure you'll get a million responses telling you about them! ---- There's Music Together in Short Hills, So. Orange or Maplewood. I don't know their phone number , but their website is Musictogether.com. ---- Music Together is great for an almost 2-yr old. They have locations in Maplewood, Short Hills and South Orange. http://www.musictogetherwithkelly.com/ ---- I like the Music Together classes; they have locations in Maplewood, South Orange and more recently in Short Hills ( I believe in the Community Congregational Church. ---- music together. I know they are in livingston and south orange/maplewood. www.musictogether.com ---- My children have not taken class there, but I have heard good things about the storefront music and art school at the corner of South Orange Avenue and Scotland Road in South Orange. The name escapes me at the moment, but if you drive up Wyoming Avenue, take a right on South Orange and stay on that down and then up the hill (just a couple of miles) it will be on the left just after turning left onto Scotland. My children have attended birthday parties there and it seemed clean and organized.
