Dog Responses Compiled

I want to thank everyone for their responses to my questions about dogs.  I chose an electric fence for my puppy that is going to be installed by the Canine Fence Company next month.

I decided to switch my puppy to the Wellness food.  I just started so I am not sure yet if it is agreeing with her, but she really seems to like it.  It was recommended highly by the Millburn Feed store in town.  I also checked some sites on the web and it seemed to be favorably recommended.

I am going to strongly consider giving my puppy the lyme disease shot for next year.

I am leaving my puppy at the Morris Animal Inn next month when we go on vacation.  However, I would like to hear about other kennel for future stays.

FOOD

We feed our dog (who is now age 9 and very playful) Eukanuba Adult Maintenance. Our dog has had stomach problems since puppy days. Originally the vet put him on expensive prescription food, which he never really ate. Finally, we switched him to the Eukanuba once when we too were boarding at a place that was feeding certain brands. This particular type of Eukanuba just has chicken and no liver or other meats, which is what my dog cannot eat. We've been using it for several years and he is doing fine. Every person has a different idea on the subject; similar to whether you shop only at Whole Foods or at Kings. I have one friend whose breeder makes her feed her dogs raw food. Personally, I think it is disgusting and dangerous for her kids. I won't keep her dogs when she is on vacation just for that reason. I can't have my dog eating their food or my kids near it and it attracts bugs. There are plenty of healthy dogs who eat Alpo (not that I would give mine Alpo, but you know what I mean).

We used to get Iams for out Lab.  Then at Costco I compared the ingredients of the Iams to the Kirkland brand (which is Costco's store brand) Lamb and Rice.  On every metric the Costco brand was either the same or a little better than the Iams.  If you do switch foods, I recommend doing it gradually. For example, for a few days mix three quarters of the old food with one quarter new, then go to half and half, etc.

FENCE
We have a wood fence, so I can't help you here. I'm guessing they are all the same. Check on line and you can probably find out the answer.

We have an electric fence - we couldn't do without it.  We used a company called The Canine Fence Company, but I think they are all pretty much the same.

LYME DISEASE SHOT

(3) My dog gets the lyme disease shot only since he tested positive for Lyme disease last year. He never got it before then. He does get flea/tick and heartworm medicine monthly.

Kennel-Morris Animal Inn

We did leave our dog there originally. It was the only place around that people seemed to like. I thought it was very expensive and they charged for everything. Since we have a large standard poodle, we didn't like the fact that he didn't get much exercise and he was in a crate all day. He was fine there though; they took good care of him. It is a kennel. We stopped when we started an arrangement with a friend who had a dog.
