Thank you so very much for your generous replies to my request for
speech therapist recommendations.  Here's a compilation of the responses
I received:


I would highly recommend Karen Masters in Chatham - (973) 635-5757.

Our neighbor, Barbara Portnoff, is a speech therapist.  She is listed in
the newcomer's resource guide; her office is right on Millburn Avenue by
the Whole Foods.  I know she has worked with a lot of the pediatricians
in the area, and I'm sure she will come highly recommended.

Barbara Portnoff is an excellent therapist as well.

We've used Judy Klein at Suburban Speech.  She was wonderful.
We really like Judy Weisel at Suburban Speech in Short Hills.  I think
all of them are good there.

Our pediatrician recommended the speech therapy department at Overlook
Hospital.  We saw two therapists there (because the first one left for
a new position).

My children went to Reila Zimmerman.  She was great and my kids loved
her.  Her office was in town above the Neighborhood House on Taylor
Road.  Reila Zimmerman is in Millburn and has an excellent reputation.

I've not used her, but have consulted with Reila Zimmerman. She's right
in town not far from the High School. I'm sure she's listed. She does
the speech screenings for the B'nai Israel pre-school.

I was reasonably satisfied with the speech therapists at Cynthia
Marrapodi's office (Summit Avenue, Summit, 908-598-0228).  My son
worked with both Susan Gross Tulli and Karen (can't remember last name).
Susan was especially good, and Karen was fine.

We used Cynthia Marripodi in Summit and were very happy.

I'd like to give you the name of Amy Clayman. She is actually the wife
of a good friend of mine, and we have never used her. But we did
volunteer to partake in a study she was doing, and she came over and
spent an hour with my daughter, who was 2 at the time, doing all sorts
of testing, and she held my daughter's attention the entire time. I know
its better to have a recommendation from someone I may have used, but I
just wanted to throw her name out--perhaps if you call her and like her,
she can give you some references. I believe she works in a private
school and then does private speech therapy on the side. Her email is
