Subject: [workmom] Compiled: kids tennis lessons From: Tracy Date: Mon, 1 Aug 2005 23:53:40 Thanks for the kids tennis lesson recommendations. Below is the compiled list, as several people had requested it. Regards, Tracy I used to teach kids tennis, and I always tell parents that unless your kid is bugging you for tennis lessons, wait until they are five. andre agassi notwithstanding, a lot of the coordination and motor skills that kids need for tennis and baseball don't really gel until they're five and a lot of kids at 3 and 4 will get frustrated and then feel a negative connotation attached to that sport because they feel they're "not good" at it. just some advice. and i've heard people going to centre court in chatham. I just started (son) with tennis lessons at Center Court this summer. He really loves it. They also have clinics during the week, which I might sign him up for 1 or 2 days after camp ends. I believe in Maplewood there is a tennis club that is holding weekly camps. I believe the summit Y has lessons ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ From: Serena Subject: RE: [workmom] Tennis lessons - summary Date: Tue, 7 Sep 2004 09:15:17 -0400 A few responses - see below Twin Oaks Tennis Center in Morristown, on Rte. 510. He takes semi-private lessons with the head instructor, Bret Michel. Bret is a delightful person and is a wonderful teacher for kids. My son, Matthew (who is 9) went to tennis camp at Brooklake tennis club this summer. It is a bit further than Center Court (off Main St. in Chatham). I take my kids to Brooklake Country Club to David Kramer and we are very satisfied - my son (10) has done camp with him the last 2 summers and will be doing lessons with him for the second year. My daughter (8) is starting a clinic at Columbia Racquet Club in the fall but will switch to David Kramer in the winter (the timing did not work out for us in the fall). I just signed up for west orange tennis club on pleasant valley way. Center court and west orange both have group lessons available - mostly sat and sundays. Center court had group lessons on Monday still open, but my son has something else that day, so we went with west orange. I understand that center court is a nicer facility, but apparently to get the good times during the week, you have to sign up in the spring for the fall. Good luck! I am looking for tennis lessons for my 10 year old. Private would be ideal, but group ok also. We are looking at Center Court, but they seem to be full. Any other recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks, Serena
